On the occasion of the 60-th birthday of Prof. Guido Schneider the University of Stuttgart hosted a workshop on dynamical systems approaches towards nonlinear PDEs. The workshop, which took place from August 28 to August 30, attracted 60 researchers from all over the world. There were 17 specialized presentations highlighting the ongoing development and significance of dynamical systems techniques in current research. Additionally, the workshop served as an opportunity for early-career researchers to familiarize themselves with the field. Fifteen of them presented their own work in a poster session.

Aim of the workshop

The workshop is concerned with the nonlinear dynamics of PDEs, with a focus on problems on unbounded domains and modulation equations.

The goal of the workshop is twofold. On the one hand, we aim to bring together experts in the field employing dynamical systems techniques to study nonlinear PDEs. On the other hand, the workshop is an opportunity for early-career researchers to get acquainted with recent advances and to present their own work by participating in the poster session.

Registration: 7th floor room 7.530
Talks: 8h floor room 8.122

The workshop will take place from Wednesday, August 28, 9:00 until Friday, August 30, 13:00.

The program of the workshop encompasses plenary lectures, in which the speakers provide an overview on dynamical system techniques to study nonlinear PDEs and sketch the relationship to their current research. Envisioned topics are amplitude and modulation equations, stability and long-term behavior of special solutions, pattern formation, dissipative and dispersive dynamics, center manifolds and spatial dynamics, and discrete and lattice dynamical systems. In addition, there will be a poster session where early-career researchers have the opportunity to present their work.

How to reach the University Campus Vaihingen:
The S-Bahn is undergoing construction works and the station "University" is closed.

From Stuttgart Main Station:
There is a shuttle bus between Stuttgart Main Station and the university campus Stuttgart-Vaihingen every 5 minutes: No."SEV1" - the trip takes about 30 minutes. You need a "1-Zone ticket" for the trip.

From Stuttgart Airport:

The S2- and S3-trains from the airport are running every 30 minutes. The train will terminate at station "Stuttgart-Vaihingen". Here you can take the bus "82 Waldeck" or "SEV 2" to reach the university campus. The trip takes 30 minutes. Alternatively, you can take bus "X60" at the airport to university campus Stuttgart-Vaihingen - this takes about 20 minutes, the bus is running once an hour. You need a "2-Zone ticket" for the trip.
